"...our lives are a journey of seeing ourselves as significant to different people, different groups of people whose affection for us enables us to see ourselves (and our purpose) in a God whom we cannot see."

Are those your words? That is absolutely spot-on. Ties in well with Matt 25:31+.

Thanks Butch! I've tried a whole bunch of ways, and while the paper/pen takes a lot more trouble to do--really double work, I really do think that the paper and pen activates a different part of my brain that is needed when editing and revising. I know it kills more trees and I do make it a point to use recycled paper AND recycle the backs of the pages I use. It also makes for good scratch paper for my wife when she tutors students in Math and my boys when they get into their own creative mode (writing, drawing and paper airplanes). And since I work exclusively on my Macbook pro (15") its harder on my eyes. Great to hear from you brother! Thanks for taking time to comment and for recommending your blog to me!

Hey, Roy. Thanks for reminding me of that time-honored quote by Hemingway. Hope you are doing well. How sharply I remember the instance in my living room when I told Mike Patin -- probably in the early 1990s -- (and to quite a few others over time), 'If you wanna, you just gotta start to write. If you don't do it, your dream is never gonna get a fair chance.' New birds never fly if they don't get the nudge from their nests.

Interesting to see your composition page examples. I have forsaken paper and pen completely. Every word I put down, or delete, or change or re-spell, comes through a keyboard then onto a monitor these days.

I have a blog too -- but it's not overtly religious or spiritual in nature. It's a bit more eclectic in nature. --

I placed several pieces onto it this week. And on the blog, I post fragments and scraps (and first ideas that usually suck) of ficton that I am intending for inclusion in my new book -- short stories. Would love to have you stop by. I don't actively seek "followers," but you would be welcome to do so. I'd love it if you would drop your e-mail address my blog dropbox too, as I have with yours, so we can stay in virtual connection. Take care. Good luck.

That is a powerful message isn't it? I first saw it as an animation with Ira Glass reading it. Very inspirational.

Wow! I'm SO happy that the time you spent listening to this big bald guy was HELPFUL to you. I have a special place in my heart for people who give of their time, talent and energy to serve others. Thanks for your many years of service Gloria! Thank you as well for your words of affirmation. I ask my family to read these so that they know the time they offer me up being away from them is their powerful unique contribution to this ministry. Hope to see you at Congress next year! Please keep in touch!

My sister and I attended both of your classes. I have been a Catechist for over 23 years and attended almost as many congresses. I just wanted to thank you. My sister and I exchanged our Sunday tickets for your last class which was an excellent choice. I have already sent off for both CDs. In all the classes I have ever attended had never address anger which effects all levels of our being. I can only pray many others will have the opportunity to view your presentations and your book. Listening to a CDs will deprive the listeners your visual presentation you gave in class. I hope the Religious Educational Congress will provide DVDs in the near future. You have been given a great gift. Keep up the good work. Your story as many others who have had to lived through such anger and allowed God to embrace them needs to be offered to so many more. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you and God Bless.
